This 1966 Ford Mustang Fastback has been through a six year, ground up, nut and bolt built into one of the most incredible Shelby GT350 Clones we have ever seen. The car was built properly, right here in Australia, with every single item on this car being refurbished or replaced at some stage.
Starting with the body, the car was originally a factory C code, 1966 Fastback which was in reasonably good condition. The car was stripped back to a bare shell and taken right back to bare metal. Once in its undies, any necessary repairs were undertaken with the brief that the car was to be better than it every was from the factory. The metal and panels were file finished to achieve the results without the need to use large amounts of filler anywhere. Once the body was sorted, it was coated in the classic Shelby GT350 colour scheme of Wimbledon white with blue stripes.
Externally, the car has all the right Shelby gear with scooped bonnet, hood pins, plexiglass rear quarter window, functional side scoops and side exit exhausts. While it’s a street car, the car is currently presented in its ‘race look’ with 16x7” black steel wheels and Avon tyres painted as Goodyear billboards. The front bumper and ariel are also removed currently but the restored bumper and electric ariel come with the car as does a set of new 14” Magnum wheels with period style Goodyear Blue Streak tyres if you wanted to return it to a complete factory Shelby look.
Inside the car again has been completely restored. The inside is again in it’s ‘race look’ with fixed back Kirkey racing seat and Sparco four point racing harnesses. The restored original style drivers seat does come with the car all trimmed to match the rest of the interior. The dash has Shelby style gauges and radio delete however again, an original style radio and gauge cluster are also included. Poking up from the floor is a Hurst manual shifter and three pedals on the floor for a proper driving experience. The car features a roll bar with harness bar and correct Shelby style rear seat delete panel.
Under the bonnet is a 302 Windsor V8 that has been stroked to 347ci and built to suit the period style Paxton Supercharger. The engine build was completed in 2015 and included Scat Crank and rods, SRP forged pistons, King bearings, Crow Cams custom cam, high volume oil pump, Roll Master double row timing chain, Crow push rods, ARP head studs, Precision Motorsport roller rockers and heads that were suitable for unleaded fuel and matched to manifold. The result is approximately 370hp at the rear wheels making for a very fun drive and the Shelby style side exhausts let the cranky note be known to anyone within ear shot. The engine is paired to a Tremec T5, five speed manual transmission and power is fed to the rear wheels via a 9” diff with LSD centre, 3.5 gears and 28 spline axles. The undercarriage of the car is just as well detailed as the top and you can clearly see it was a no expense spared build. The floors are all red oxide as they would have been from the factory and you can see care in choosing original colours and delivery marking on parts. Take your time and look through the pictures and details on this car, it is truly at another level to anything else you will see. The owner estimates approximately $400,000 was invested into the car over the period of the 6 year build. Mustang’s built to this quality are very hard to come by, register and bid now if you can see yourself banging through some gears in this one.
