Lead 1957 AJS 18CS 500cc Compy.....
Description
1957 AJS 18CS 500cc, all alloy short stroke motor competition scrambles bike - A Compy. The bike is a model 18 (500cc) from 1957 with the ‘C’ standing for Competition and ‘S’ for Scrambles. From 1951 to 1955 it was known as a ‘long stroke’ engine. From 1956 it was replaced with a shorter stroke and wider bore and thus was the ‘short stroke’. The bike has been thoroughly restored mechanically,tinware and chassis. All the bits and pieces were purchased from AJS & MOC UK and the result is a lovely operational bike. Often these bikes were specialist competition scramblers but quite a number were bought by amateurs. They came with quick detachable headlights and taillights for the race and then could be converted to road use to ride back home. This machine is fitted with a generator and the lights, wiring harness and battery box for rally registration and use. Tyres are new at restoration and have done about 5 km on a test run..
