12 yo dark brown/black standard bred gelding, 15.3-16hh, never raced. Broken in autumn 2020 has had lessons with novice rider and worked minimally.
Lovely big trot, rarely paces only if unsure or out of work and is easily corrected with verbal ask “Trot Up” or “Canter.” Has mainly been worked in walk and trot to consolidate basics - have only asked for canter minimal times. Not a forward horse, easy to stop just with seat, backs beautifully with flexion, very soft mouth, has not been pulled around or tightly held. Flexes easily both ways at a standstill. Just started learning yielding hind while ridden. Can yield hind and shoulder very nicely on the ground with training rope. Responds very well to clear instructions.
Playful and cheeky nature, he’ll take your hat off, throw his feed bin around or play with a big stick in the paddock. Never bitten people or shown nasty behaviours. Easy to catch, do feet, rug, dentist - very good on the ground, you can duck under his belly he doesn’t move. He needs work with being away from his friends, this is his main vice, has never bolted or reared only tries to turn around or avoids going away from the herd. Worst he's done is become tense swivel around and trot about 3 paces before coming back to rider with turning and doing zig zags to focus his attention.
Owner would love to see this guy excel with someone perhaps a confident teen or adult wanting an all rounder, trails or to show. Benny was professionally broken in, trainer described him as "bold" and not a beginners horse. He therefore has confidence and is usually quite good with investigating unknown objects but also must be ridden a confident leader for anything he is unsure of. Someone with experience who can help him on his way with his education and miles. Has been ridden by a novice who does not have facilities or the experience to further his training.
Has always been kept up to date with worming, trims, teeth. Minimal experience with floating/trucking. He was bought with a tendon sheath injury 7 years ago which was never an issue as it didn't penetrate deeper to the actual tendon - small old scar on his hind near, can hardly see it you have to part the hair to see. He is sound. He really has lovely nature, enjoys a rub and scratch and will often do a big yawn and give you a kiss to show it.
Long term owner, regretful sale.
